|Announcement-First Standalone Photo Exhibit of Ivan Kelava|
Mostar, September 16 2010
The first standalone photo exhibition of Mostar's photographer Ivan Kelava named People Around Me will be organized by Croatian Cultural Association "Napredak" - Head Branch Mostar in the Gallery of Queen Katarina in Mostar on October 13 2010 at 7:30 PM.
Ivan Kelava is an amateur photographer who has been dealing with photography for over 10 years. By the quality of his photos, some of which have been awarded, surpasses the amateur level and according to many Kelava is amongst the best photographers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A special characteristic of Kelava's photos is his focus on people and portraits. He deals mostly with expressions and with "capturing" non-verbal speech from which human emotions can be read.
"The topic of this exhibition encompasses greatly that which I am occupied with in photography, as the name suggests, the focus is on people. Selection of works was made in cooperation with several prominent names from photography field, who helped with their suggestions to select the half of exhibited photos, and the other half was selected by me as the author. What I like to take photos of most are the motives that are not frequent, which, you could say, disappear, like old people in situations where they plow the land in a traditional way withouth modern accessories", said Kelava.
Secretary general of CCA "Napredak" and a secretary of Mostar's Head Branch Vanja Gavran emphasized that "Napredak's" Mostar Branch continues through this project realization of its "mission" to promote artists and culture of Mostar and Herzegovina. "Mostar's Head Branch of CCA "Napredak" has a lot to offer when it comes to photography, for truly, what Kelava does with his camera, is more than the art. By "capturing the moment" he revives memories and reminiscences, while showing at the same time great fortune of beauty and of people of this region", said Gavran announcing the opening of exhibition.
The entire project was supported by the Foundation for Musical, Scene and Fine Arts in Sarajevo, City of Mostar, "Elektroprivreda" of HZHB and Intesa SanPaolo Bank.
The exhibition will remain open until October 20, and then it will be set in other towns of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia in organization of "Napredak's" branches.
